Robert A. Grimm Children's Pavilion for Emergency Services

Every detail designed with our youngest patients in mind at the only dedicated pediatric emergency department between Los Angeles and Madera.

Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services Opening Soon!

With the establishment of the Lauren Small Children’s Center in 2012, Memorial Hospital took a major step towards realizing its vision of providing comprehensive and specialized pediatric care close to home for the children of our community.

The Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services will be the latest addition to the Lauren Small Children’s Center. The Children’s Pavilion will be the only dedicated pediatric emergency department between Los Angeles and Madera and will complete the continuum of care for pediatric patients in Kern County.

The Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital at consists of:

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: an eight bed PICU at Memorial opened in 2012. It is the only PICU between Los Angeles and Madera
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: a 31-bed Level II NICU
  • Bolthouse Family Pediatric Acute Care Unit: 35-bed inpatient unit
  • Grossman Burn Center: 8-bed unit provides comprehensive burn care to patients of all ages
  • Helen Taylor Cobbs Children’s Healing Garden
  • Ronald McDonald House

The new Children’s Pavilion is located adjacent to the existing emergency department and will feature separate waiting and treatment areas for pediatric patients. It will include an urgent care “fast track” exclusively for these patients.

All patients will be seen by doctors and nurses specially trained in pediatric medicine. The Children’s Pavilion will enable Memorial to deliver essential care in a comforting environment for children and their families.

Comprehensive Pediatric Care

We offer a wide variety of pediatric health care services close to home so fewer families have to travel long distances to reach children’s hospitals outside of the area.

The Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital is a child-friendly “hospital within a hospital” specially designed to meet the needs of younger patients. We provide:

  • High Risk Infant Follow-up Clinic
  • Neonatal Intensive Care
  • Pediatric Acute Care
  • Pediatric Intensive Care
  • InQuicker Online Emergency Room Waiting Service
  • Pediatric Home Health Program
  • Ronald McDonald House

In addition to pediatricians and surgeons, we also work closely with neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists and pediatric nephrologists.

Brock Welch's Story

In the past when he came to the Emergency Department with severe respiratory complications Brock was transported to a hospital out of town. But this time Brock's family was pleasantly surprised to learn that, thanks in part to the Bolthouse Family Pediatrics Department at Memorial Hospital, Brock was able to stay in Bakersfield and get the treatment he needed here at home, surrounded by his family and friends.
