Breast Cancer Awareness

In 2022, an estimated 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 51,400 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. Ultimately, one in every eight women will be affected with this disease and 39,000 women will lose their battle against breast cancer. It is likely that someone you know will be personally will be directly affected by breast cancer this year alone, making breast cancer the second leading cause of cancer death in women.

According to the American Cancer Society Standards, monthly breast exams along with yearly mammograms are considered to be the biggest aid in diagnosing breast cancer. Women age 40 and older should get an annual screening mammogram even if they appear to show no breast symptoms. If you are at a higher risk (like a family history of breast cancer) you should speak with your doctor as you may need to start earlier screenings.
