St. Rose Dominican Announces First Latina Board Chair

The Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Board of Directors named Sandy Colón Peltyn its new board chair and added two new board members, Sisters Cynthia Cammack and Patricia Dulka. Colón Peltyn replaces James Barrett, who was board chair since 2010.

Sandy Colón Peltyn’s experience in the fields of marketing, public relations, political affairs, and philanthropy has spanned an incredible 30-year career. She is the founder of the Foundation for Excellence and Distinction, which has generated over 850 scholarships for highly talented students wishing to pursue higher education in Nevada. Colón Peltyn is also actively involved in all forms of other charitable and cultural activities, both in a fundraising and organizing capacity. Currently, Colón Peltyn is the Director of Physician Development for WellHealth Quality Care/PPIC and was appointed by Governor Sandoval to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners. Along with her present positions, Colón Peltyn has been appointed by President Obama as one of 24 commissioners to perform feasibility studies in order to create the first-ever museum of the American Latino under the Smithsonian Institute. She was also appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Arts, through the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, by former President George W. Bush. 

Locally, she has been very active with the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, Keep Our Doctors in Nevada coalition and Clark County Medical Society, and was recently named to the board of Western Governors University Nevada. Colón Peltyn has been on St. Rose’s community board since 2012, and is also a member of the St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation Board of Directors.

Sister Cynthia Cammack, OP, RN, CNS, MSN, CHPN, has more than 25 years of nursing experience and became a member of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael in 2002. Sr. Cynthia has spent much of her time in California, but has worked at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV as a nurse case manager and palliative care coordinator in their hospice program. She received her BS in Nursing from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA, and her MS in Nursing from Dominican University of California in San Rafael, CA. 

Sister Patricia Dulka, ACSW, is a licensed social worker and member of the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Sr. Patricia has spent much of her time in Illinois and Michigan, including work as an adjunct professor at Siena Heights College in Adrian, Michigan. Sr. Patricia has spent much of her career helping children, both as a teacher and therapist. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian, MI, and her Master of Social Work degree from George Williams College in Downers Grove, IL.
