Siena Children's Emergency Room

Emergency Pediatric expertise close to home.

Siena’s Children’s ER is the city of Henderson’s only pediatric Emergency Room, for children from birth to 17. The newly relocated, expanded and remodeled Children’s Emergency Room is completely separate from the adult ER and provides:

• Dedicated Children's ER entrance and waiting area
• Child-friendly, private treatment rooms and waiting area
• Collaborative care with your family pediatrician
• Around-the-clock care – available 24/7, 365 days a year

Parents may rest assured knowing their children are cared for by highly qualified and compassionate pediatricians and staff. When more than emergent care is needed, our team of pediatric ICU and hospitalist physicians, neonatal ICU physicians, pediatric surgeons and specialists, and a multi-disciplinary team including child life specialists will collaborate with your child’s pediatrician. We aim to be the medical center you can depend on from birth to adulthood.

What’s different about a Children’s ER?

Dr. Laos, Medical Director of the Children’s Emergency Dept. at Siena Hospital, explains how a Children’s E.R. is different from a general E.R. and how it is better prepared to care for our littlest patients.

When should I take my child to the ER?

Though it's always our hope that you and your child won't have to visit an emergency room any time soon, should the need arise, we are here and dedicated to caring for your child in the way only St. Rose Dominican hospitals can - with compassion and quality care.

Call 9-1-1 or go straight to the emergency room if your child has:

  • Abdominal conditions such as appendicitis, intestinal blockage, or infection
  • Allergies, including seasonal allergies, exposure to poison ivy, and anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction
  • Bone, joint, and muscle problems, including fractures, joint dislocations, sprains, strains, and serious bruises
  • Diarrhea with high fever or if your child refuses to drink, is listless, or has bloody stool
  • Endocrine diseases such as diabetes
  • Fever and infections, including meningitis, sepsis, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, pink eye, pneumonia, strep throat, mononucleosis, upper respiratory infection, influenza, abscesses, and stomach flu
  • Inability to speak, walk, or move
  • Lung problems such as asthma and difficulty breathing
  • Mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, psychosis, anxiety, depression, and threats or attempts at suicide
  • Poisonings, including accidental ingestions and drug overdoses
  • Possible child abuse and neglect, including evaluation, initial treatment, evidence collection, and notification of appropriate agencies
  • Rapid heartbeat that does not slow down
  • Symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Injuries, including serious burnseye injuriesmajor cutsanimal bitesdehydration, smoke inhalation, shock, neck, spinal and head injury
  • Vomiting blood

Go to the ER or wait and call the Pediatrician?

It's the 2AM question every parent has asked themselves. Dr. Laos, Medical Director of the Siena Hospital Pediatric Emergency Dept., offers her advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Children’s ER entrance utilizes the same doors as the Dominican Tower entrance, facing Eastern Avenue and is open 24/7.

Emergency triage makes sure the sickest patients get care first. Triage identifies patients who need immediate care and those who can wait.

If your child’s condition changes, please notify the triage nurse immediately.

We may need to perform tests/procedures to rule out various illnesses. Some of these tests may require patients to have an empty stomach. If your child would like to eat or drink while waiting, please check with an ER staff before doing so.

If your child needs to use the restroom while in the waiting area, please notify a staff member. The staff may need to collect a sample.

*This service is only intended for use by those who are seeking care at the ER and do not have life-threatening or debilitating medical complaints. Those indicating a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition during the online registration process (a list of emergency condition filters is built into the system) will immediately be prompted to dial 9-1-1 or go to the nearest ER.

This is not an appointment or reservation service, as emergency triage processes do not allow for the scheduling of treatment. Users are subject to the same triage processes as all other ER patients, including delays caused by changes in patient traffic. Users do not skip in front of other patients. Priority treatment is always given to those with the most urgent medical conditions.
