Cardiac Rehabilitation

Heart care doesn't end with a procedure or surgery. Rehabilitation, in varying degrees of intensity, is crucial to a full recovery. St. Rose Dominican Hospitals' cardiac rehabilitation team works closely with patients to develop the best rehabilitation program.

What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?

The cardiac rehabilitation teams at St. Rose Dominican help patients develop exercise routines and provide education for patients with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) or who have had heart attacks, PTCA (to open the coronary arteries), stents, coronary artery bypass, valve surgeries, stable angina and even heart transplants.

Patients learn heart-healthy eating basics, the importance of taking medications and getting exercise (activity guidelines for going home are provided). In addition, risk factors for heart disease are discussed along with signs and symptoms of heart attacks.

St. Rose Dominican Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs

Inpatient Rehabilitation

While in the hospital, heart patients receive exercise guidance while they recover from cardiac surgery or procedures. Information on their proper activity progression and healing is provided to ensure patients maintain healthy lifestyles once they return home.

Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation

Once patients return home, many continue rehabilitation at St. Rose Dominican on an outpatient basis. The patient's blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm are monitored while they exercise. Registered nurses and exercise specialists help patients progress to an appropriate duration and intensity level of exercise, which makes them feel more confident exercising at home and returning to their daily activities.

The St. Rose Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
