Mark Twain Medical Center announces new Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Pardeep Athwal, Radiologist named Chief Medical Officer

SAN ANDREAS, CA – September 3, 2020 - Pardeep Athwal, MD, MBA will begin serving as Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Centers Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on September 14th.

Dr. Athwal received his Doctor of Medicine at the St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University Hospital of Brooklyn followed by his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He completed his Musculoskeletal fellowship at the University of Utah Medical Center.

“Dr. Athwal first joined Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) on August 25, 2017 as our Radiologist, commented Doug Archer, MTMC CEO & President. “Since his arrival he has helped to bring cutting edge technology to the Diagnostic Imagining Department with the addition of 3D Mammography and breast MRI services. Working closely with the Imaging Services Director and the technicians, he has been effective in streamlining protocols, decreasing turnaround times and improving the overall quality of imaging services. In addition, he has been able to develop a broad network of radiologists with specialty training, resources that are generally only available at larger medical centers. Aside from his role in the radiology department, he has also served as the Chairman of the Surgery Department and Peer Review Committee.”

 

As the CMO, Dr. Athwal is the principal representative to physicians and serves as a senior advocate for physicians and the profession of medicine. Dr. Athwal is also responsible for working alongside of the care teams and leadership to ensure that Mark Twain Medical Center patients have an exceptional experience; providing compassionate high quality health care that is safe and excellent service to our community.

Dr. Athwal is proficient in Hindi and is fluent in Punjabi. His hobbies are playing one of his four musical instruments; enjoying snowboarding, cooking, traveling, reading, and writing.
