Mercy Medical Group’s gastroenterology department specializes in the treatment of various digestive disorders, liver diseases and the surveillance of the gastrointestinal tract.
Our team offers a wide array of endoscopic services of the upper GI tract including pancreatobiliary endoscopy and therapy, endoscopic stenting, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy.
Some of the diseases we manage include inflammatory bowel diseases, peptic disease and small bowel disorders. Our medical team also assists in the diagnosis and management of GI malignancies and a variety of chronic hepatic disorders including hepatitis and cirrhosis.
Screening patients for colon cancer is an important function of Mercy Medical Group’s Gastroenterology department. We encourage anyone with a family history of colon cancer and those 50 to 75 years old to get screened. In an effort to reach these patients, we have developed group classes for education and scheduling of screening colonoscopies.
The classes are held on some weeknight evenings and Saturday mornings and are hosted by one of our gastroenterology physicians. These pre-screening classes are comparable to a scaled down initial consult. Upon completing the class, patients are ready to schedule their procedure, but if they prefer, they can still schedule an initial consult. For more information, call 916.733.3370.
Some procedures we perform include:
- Diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy, including treatment of bleeding sites, dilation, stent placement, BoTox treatment for achalasia
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography, including papillotomy, stone extraction/lithotripsy, stent placement
- Endoscopic Ultrasound, including biopsy
- Colonoscopy including, biopsy, polypectomy, treatment of bleeding sites, dilation, stent placement
Mercy Medical Group’s physicians offer treatments for Chronic Hepatitis B and Chronic Hepatitis C and a wide array of gastrointestinal diseases. For Hepatitis C referrals from outside providers, we ask that the patient’s HCV RNA (quantitative viral load), HCV genotype and liver panel be collected beforehand.
Our medical team’s goal is to help our patients control the symptoms that negatively affect their health and lifestyle while focusing on their treatment. Patients are seen at our central Sacramento location, the Midtown care center.
