Mercy Medical Group’s pain management clinic has specially trained pain management physicians and support staff who treat patients struggling with chronic pain. Our team uses a multimodal approach to treat pain, utilizing a combination of medications, injections, physical therapy and counseling in the treatment and management of chronic pain.
There are a variety of medications our physicians employ to treat pain. Anti-inflammatories work where pain is being generated, muscle relaxants decrease painful muscle tension, other medications can help to stabilize painful nerves, patches and creams can be placed on the skin over painful areas in addition to drugs that help decrease sensitivity to pain.
Interventional therapies include epidural and joint steroid injections in the spine as well as knees, shoulders and hips. Mercy’s physicians use medication infusions for headache management and CRPS for pain not responsive to oral medications. Radiofrequency neurolysis is also used to treat spinal pain generated by arthritic joints, spinal cord stimulation for back and leg pain. Minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD procedure) can help some patients avoid major surgery to treat spinal stenosis.
Optimal pain management will take into consideration all aspects that may contribute to quality of life, overall health and wellness – including emotional health, quality of sleep, smoking cessation and nutrition. Mercy’s team works with each patient to determine which approaches work best for them.
Mercy Medical Group’s pain management team includes an on-staff counselor who specializes in chronic pain and is available to work with patients in clinic on a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting.
Our pain management specialists are now available in three locations – San Juan, Natomas and Midtown.
