Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

When infants, children or adolescents need special care for a critical health condition, rest assured they are in no better hands than those of staff in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where compassionate care includes advanced medical expertise. 

“Intensive care" means that your child needs close monitoring and advanced clinical knowledge. Our PICU is certified by California Children’s Services where the well being of our young patients and providing them with the highest level of specialized care is our priority. Our dedicated team of critical care specialists in more than 20 subspecialties care for children in the PICU with our PALS and ACLS certified nurses who are experienced in providing personalized attention and treatment to critically ill children.

Along with critical care physicians and critical care nurses your child’s multidisciplinary team are skilled professionals there to provide your child with complete care. PICU team members include: Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Child Life Specialist, Registered Dietician, Case Manager, Chaplains, and Pharmacists.

  • Poisonings
  • Drownings and Submersion injuries
  • Severe Respiratory Diseases 
  • Neurologic Diseases
  • Cardiac
  • Gastrointestinal 
  • Infectious Diseases

We encourage collaboration and communication with caregivers so that you are kept up-to-date about your child’s condition, and receive the information you need to make informed choices about your child's care. Family is an essential part of the team and we accommodate for a caregiver to be at the bedside 24/7.

When your child's condition improves and intensive care is no longer needed, your child is transferred to our Pediatric Unit where continuity of care is ensured.
