MS Achievement Center Celebrates First year of Providing Daytime Wellness Services

Medical Director John Shafer, MD, discusses innovative program on Capital Public Radio.

The MS Achievement Center, part of the Dignity Health Neurological Institute of Northern California, is celebrating its first year of operation next week. One year ago, the center offered its first program with 10 people. One year later, there are 42 people living with Multiple Sclerosis enrolled in the day wellness program on Tuesdays and Thursdays with a third day of programming recently added.

The achievement center offers day wellness services for people and their families facing the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis.

The MS Achievement Center, located at 7777 Greenback Lane, Suite 108, in Citrus Heights, is the only one of its kind in Northern California, providing wellness programming to address the physical, mental, cognitive, recreation and information needs of people with MS. Programs include group physical activities, cognitive stimulation, individualized fitness programs, education classes and recreational activities.

The MS Achievement Center was established thanks to an $890,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation through Mercy Foundation.

John Schafer, MD, medical director of the MS Achievement Center, was interviewed live on the Capital Public Radio Show “Insight with Beth Ruyak" on Monday, March 16. Dawn Leytem, who participates in programs at the center, was also interviewed.
