Endometriosis

Dignity Health's Sacramento team of women's health experts are dedicated providing the latest in pelvic pain treatment and advanced gynecologic surgery. Our gynecologic surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of all conditions leading to chronic pelvic pain in women—especially complicated diagnoses that require advanced surgical procedures.

Endometriosis Overview

When the tissue that normally lines the uterus starts to grow in other places, like the ovaries, bowels and bladder, it is a condition called endometriosis. When this tissue grows elsewhere in a woman's body, it can cause pain, infertility and heavy periods.

The pain usually manifests in the abdomen, lower back or pelvic region. However, some women have no symptoms at all. Endometriosis is usually diagnosed when a woman has trouble conceiving. Your doctor will perform a pelvic exam to confirm a diagnosis of endometriosis.

Treatments for Endometriosis

While the cause of endometriosis is not known, there are several treatment options including pain medication and hormone therapy. Severe cases may require surgery. Our doctors discuss all treatment options for every woman when a diagnosis of endometriosis is made.

If surgery is required, rest assured that our surgeons are highly skilled and trained and specialized in this type of surgery. Our commitment to surgical excellence and quick recoveries for our patients makes us a leader in the field in the Sacramento area.
