Snoring and Sleep

Snoring is not only disruptive to you and your partner, but it is a sleep disorder that may need to be treated. It is typically caused by an obstruction or blockage in the airway-- the nose, throat or both and can and often does get worse over time. Your snoring will likely get worse as a result of allergy conditions, lifestyle choices like smoking, and your physical condition - in particular your weight.

When should you see a doctor about snoring?

If you snore regularly for an extended period of time and it's affecting your life or disturbing your partner, it's time to see your doctor. Your doctor may refer you to an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist at Community Hospital of San Bernardino for treatment.

Treatments

Your ENT specialist will conduct a comprehensive ear, nose and throat exam using a special scope to examine your throat and nasal passages. This exam will help your specialist to identify the obstructions in your airway that may be causing your snoring. Treatments will differ depending on where the obstruction is found. Sometimes surgical intervention is required to remove the obstruction.
