Maternity and Family Programs

Supporting families means being there every step of the way. Sequoia Hospital is here for you from the moment you know you are pregnant until long after you go home.  We offer a number of prenatal, postnatal and orientation classes to assist new parents. Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford

Our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a six-bed special care nursery within our Birth Center. This NICU is staffed by doctors and nurses from Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford who specialize in neonatal care and are nationally recognized by U.S.News & World Report. Our Level II designation means Sequoia has the expertise and equipment to care for and stabilize high-risk newborns. 

 


Infant Care

Our Infant Care class will teach expectant parents all the essential information you need to know as you prepare to become a new parent. Our Infant Care class will help you understand: 

  • Newborn behaviors
  • Newborn health
  • Newborn safety
  • Feeding; and more

Infant CPR
This class is ideal for expecting parents, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save an infant’s life and who do not need a certified course completion card. Birth Center Orientation
Highly recommended for expectant parents. This orientation is designed to help you plan for your baby’s birth at Sequoia Hospital. We will provide you with information about our facility, available resources, and expectations for your hospital experience. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions. FREE


Lactation Education Center

New Parents Support Group
A drop-in group designed to address early child and parent development issues through discussions, speakers and special events. Parents are able to access information and meet other new parents in this relaxed environment. A forum for new parents to share their experiences. FREE


Online Maternity Classes

Our online class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site class due to work schedule, time constraints, or medical conditions. The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth. Cost involved.

Understanding Birth (Childbirth online)
Our online childbirth class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site childbirth class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.

The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.

Understanding Breastfeeding (Preparation for Breastfeeding online)
Our online preparation for breastfeeding class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.

Understanding your Newborn (Infant Care online)
Our online infant care class is ideal for those expectant parents who can’t attend an on-site infant care class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.

Childbirth Preparation
During these two days, expectant mothers and their labor partners will be introduced to a variety of topics that will help them prepare for their labor and delivery experience. They will be introduced to and practice a number of comfort measures including relaxation, breathing techniques, physiologic positions and pain medications.

 

Preparation for Breastfeeding
You and your partner will be introduced to the whys and hows of breastfeeding. Learn solutions to common questions and how to read your newborn’s feeding cues. Techniques will be taught to help those who will be supporting the nursing mother. Cost involved.
