Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

Although there are various forms of surgical treatments, many patients are familiar only with Lap Band. You'll learn more about each procedure in the free information seminar. Because every patient is unique, the surgeon will discuss your options with you individually.

The Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding procedure, or Lap Band, is a purely restrictive weight loss surgery procedure in which a band is placed around the uppermost part of the stomach, dividing it into two portions: one small and one larger portion.

The procedure works only by portion control and does not create any malabsorption. Since the stomach is divided into smaller parts, most patients feel full faster. As the name indicates, the band is adjustable, so if the rate of weight loss is not acceptable, the band can be moved. Food digestion happens through a normal digestion process.
