"Caring for our community, especially those most in need, is truly at the heart of our mission at St. Joseph's" said Sister Abby Newton, OP, Vice President of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care. "We are proud to be collaborating with these outstanding organizations to improve the health and well-being of our community."

St. Joseph's awarded grants to the following three organizations, in partnership with other local agencies:

  • Trauma Informed Community: Southeast Stockton - Community Medical Centers in partnership with the Stockton Police Department, Stocktonians Taking Action to Neutralize Drugs (STAND) & Community Partnership for Families, was awarded $44,536 for the Trauma Informed Community: Southeast Stockton project. The project will seek to raise awareness about the great impact of childhood trauma, and build a network of law enforcement, service providers, and community leaders ready to recognize and appropriately respond to individuals affected by trauma.
  • Trauma Recovery for Adolescents and Teens - Delta Health Care in partnership with Stockton Unified School District and Unseen XS was awarded $75,000 for the Trauma Recovery for Adolescents and Teens (TREAT) program. The TREAT project addresses the unmet mental health needs of youth in our community. Providing campus-based mental health interventions for traumatized youth will address this need in a setting where barriers such as access, transportation, and cost are removed.
  • Housing Navigator and Education Program - St. Mary's Dining Room in partnership with Sacramento Self-Help Housing & Women's Center Youth and Family Services, was awarded $100,000 for the Housing Navigator and Education Program. Case managers from St. Mary's Dining Room and Women's Center Youth and Family Services will identify and refer clients to the Housing Navigator, who will teach clients the Ready To Rent curriculum. The Housing Navigator will also transport and accompany clients to apply for housing opportunities, help clients to properly complete applications, and will serve as the client's advocate in dealing with prospective landlords.

The Community Grants Program was established in 1990 to provide funding to community-based organizations that provide services to individuals in need. Since its inception, the program has distributed nearly $3 million in grant funding to deserving nonprofit community benefit organizations with an interest in building healthier communities by improving health and living conditions. St. Joseph Medical Center annually sets aside revenues from operations to fund the community grant awards.
