Hospital's Norton Thoracic Institute a Safe Haven for Pulmonary Fibrosis Patients

Norton Thoracic Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center has been selected as a member of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation’s National PFF Care Center Network.

“We are honored that the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation has recognized the high quality of patient care, teaching and research performed at the Norton Thoracic Institute,” said Tanmay Panchabhai, MD, pulmonologist. “As the busiest lung transplant program in the western United States, ranking fifth in the nation, we are grateful that our history of care has demonstrated our dedication to improving the lives of patients with fibrotic lung disease.”

Pulmonary fibrosis treatment strategies are highly individualized, based upon medical history as well as other important factors. While medicine has advanced and provides options for care to patients with pulmonary fibrosis, the treatment is not curative and the disease is progressive.

“The Norton Thoracic Institute is the only lung transplant program in the state of Arizona which allows for a streamlined process for pulmonary fibrosis patients to be evaluated for and receive lung transplant,” said Ross M. Bremner, MD, PhD, executive director of the Norton Thoracic Institute.

As part of the PFF Care Center Network, Norton Thoracic Institute will have access to a wealth of resources for both patients and caregivers while collaborating with 39 other sites across the country which make up the Network to advance the care of people living with this disease.

The Norton Thoracic Institute specializes in evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the lungs, chest, or esophagus, and is proud to offer patients one of the largest and most advanced lung disease programs in the Southwest. The Pulmonary Fibrosis Program at Norton Thoracic Institute is a multi-disciplinary program that includes specialists in pulmonology, cardiology, rheumatology, thoracic surgery and radiology.
