During the ceremony, a memorial wall was unveiled inside St. Joseph's Trauma Center to recognize the fallen officers and firefighters who have been brought to St. Joseph's since 2007. The memorial also includes a flag that was flown over the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. and a special fire plaque that signifies the compassion and devotion given by St. Joseph's trauma team to Phoenix firefighters.

St. Joseph's Trauma Team is among the busiest in Arizona and is trained to treat the most critical and complex injuries throughout the state. The hospital has cared for many of the Valley's injured police officers and firefighters throughout its history.

"We are deeply humbled to be recognized by the Valley's police and fire departments," says Raymond Shamos, MD, St. Joseph's trauma surgeon. "When an officer or firefighter loses their life in the line of duty, we feel like we have lost a family member. The memorial that has been created in our trauma center will forever recognize many of the heroes of our community and will remind us every day of their service."
