St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center believes that the childbirth experience is a very personal and special experience. We provide a family-centered approach while providing expert care in our Family Birth Center.

Prenatal Care

We encourage women considering becoming pregnant to visit us for Preconceptual (o)r Preconception Counseling, optimally three to six months before you would like to become pregnant.

Preconceptual counseling allows your OB provider to screen you for normal health and development, and to identify any possible risks to your health or the health of your baby if you become pregnant. We also counsel women on how to prepare their bodies to provide a healthy environment in which a fetus can grow.

Certified Nurse Midwifery Practice

St. Joseph's certified nurse-midwives are the experts in natural childbirth. It is our goal to educate every mother-to-be and her loved ones so that they can actively participate in the decision making process. We offer personalized attention during the birthing process in the safety of the hospital for those wishing for a natural childbirth experience. In the case of a severe emergency, high-risk care is available in 2 minutes.

High Risk Pregnancies

Through our Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at St. Joseph's, we care for high-risk pregnancies and the most fragile of infants.

Birthing Facility Tours

We invite you to tour our Family Birth Center during the last trimester or your pregnancy. The maternity tours are held on the first and third Sunday of every month. Note: There will be no tours if the weekend is a holiday weekend.

Labor & Delivery Care

Our Family Birth Center consist of labor, delivery and recovery rooms, with a dedicated area for high-risk deliveries. We have anesthesiologists available 24-hours a day, as well as a Level III Nursery Intensive Care Unit which provides care for premature infants or those who may have special needs. St. Joseph's is one of the first hospitals in the state to implement a screening for congenital heart disease. All newborns delivered at St. Joseph's are now screened for these heart defects.

Baby’s First Photos

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Delivering babies is our specialty. At St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, we have over 120 years of experience delivering babies and watching family’s capture their baby’s first smile. See your baby’s pictures or click here to learn more about our photography service.

Mother-Baby Care

An added component of your birthing experience at St. Joseph's Hospital is Mother-Baby Care. Once you have given birth in the setting selected, you may choose to keep your baby with you 24 hours a day unless special services are needed for the baby or mom. Mother-Baby Care gives you the opportunity to begin building your relationship with your baby immediately. In addition, it gives your family the chance to be together in a supportive environment.

During your stay in Mother-Baby Care, your nurse will assist you in caring for your baby, provide you with information and support, and discuss options for feeding your new baby. Family members are welcome to help with the baby's care at any time.

Care for Premature Infants

At St. Joseph's, we offer the latest technology combined with highly-skilled healthcare to care for the most vulnerable of infants. Our Specialized Services allow us to use advanced technology on units including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and high frequency pressure controlled ventilation (HF)PCV to provide exceptional care and increased favorable outcomes for premature infants.

Umbilical Cord Blood Donation Program

Thanks to a partnership between St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Arizona Public Cord Blood Program, expecting moms who deliver at St. Joseph’s has the option to donate their baby’s umbilical cord blood to the national registry where it could save the life of someone with a life-threatening disease who needs a stem cell transplant.
