Welcome Baby

Welcome Baby is a free, voluntary program available to expectant mothers through the journey of pregnancy and into early parenthood. Program nurses are available to provide education and support, such as instruction on how to breastfeed and diaper a newborn. Social workers can help new mothers get connected to services in the community, including assistance enrolling in Medi-Cal or Covered California health insurance exchange plans.

The Welcome Baby program, funded by Best Start/First 5 LA, is available to all pregnant women, but certain benefits are provided only within local ZIP codes.

A woman may first hear about Welcome Baby during a prenatal care visit at her doctor’s office or clinic. From there, if she chooses to participate in the program, she will attend nine sessions with the Welcome Baby coach, culminating in a home visit by a registered nurse following birth of her baby.

The program can be different for each new mother, as their needs may be different. Some mothers may ask for support as they adjust to breastfeeding and caring for their babies. Others may want to talk about family issues.
