Emergency Medicine

When an emergency happens, you need to know you have a place to go where you can get fast medical help. St. Mary Medical Center’s Emergency Department addresses the emergent needs of Long Beach, 24/7, offering care to treat you quickly and efficiently.

Fast And Efficient Emergency Care

Our InQuicker online tool lets you see how long you might need to wait for emergency care. Click on the link, select your projected treatment time and wait at home until your time to be seen. Upon arrival and check-in, you will see a doctor who will assess your situation and determine the next appropriate level of care.

Comprehensive Emergency Services

Our Emergency Department offers a complete range of care, and our doctors and nurses are trained and equipped to handle all types of emergencies. Additionally, we have access to specialists, subspecialists and advanced equipment, thus reducing the need to be transferred to another hospital.

St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Services

  • 24-hour emergency medicine
  • STEMI Heart Attack Center
  • The Paramedic Base Station for Long Beach.  As a Certified Paramedic Receiving Center, our Emergency Department is responsible for coordinating the paramedic calls for all of the city's hospitals.
  • The lead Disaster Resource Center for Long Beach.  St. Mary coordinates the activities of 10 area hospitals in the event of a regional emergency or disaster.

Level II Trauma Center

We are a Level II trauma center, which means that when the most critically injured and ill patients are in our Emergency Room, we have highly skilled surgeons and physicians in-house 24/7 to respond.

Pediatric Emergency Care

Not all Emergency rooms are qualified to handle the needs of children. Our Emergency Department is approved to provide pediatric care.

In fact, our Emergency Department is specially designated by Los Angeles County as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP). This means the hospital has adhered to strict EDAP requirements for policies, procedures and protocols; administration/coordination; personnel; quality improvement; support services; and equipment, supplies, and medications.

Regional Disaster Resource Center  for Greater Long Beach

We're a Disaster Resource Center for 10 area hospitals throughout Long Beach and the surrounding communities, as well as the Paramedic Base Station for Long Beach, responsible for coordinating the paramedic calls for the city’s hospitals.  This means that our Emergency Department is particularly experienced in dealing with trauma, accidents and disasters.
