The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center was recently recognized with the national Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award. The distinction indicates the Center has demonstrated clinical excellence by achieving patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal, for a minimum of two consecutive years.
Chandler Regional’s wound center was awarded this prestigious honor on March 12, 2018 by Healogics, the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services. The award is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics.
“I am very proud of this outstanding program. Over the years, we have continued to serve a previously neglected population of patients who have life threatening chronic wounds,” said Brian Paterick, MD, medical director of the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Chandler Regional.
The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Chandler Regional uses an interdisciplinary approach to wound treatment and healing due to the complex nature of chronic wounds. The East Valley program is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. Chandler Regional’s wound center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments included negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, high-tech hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood, allowing oxygen to pass more easily through the plasma into the wounds to heal them. This treatment uses specialized chambers that surround patients with 100% oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure. While this therapy typically shows no benefit for normal, healthy individuals, some people with certain medical conditions do benefit from increased levels of oxygen.
