Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Receives Accreditation

Proven medical treatment enhances the body's natural healing of chronic wounds

The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center, part of the Healogics, Inc. advanced wound care services network, received its third accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) since 2005.  Dignity Health Chandler Regional remains the only hospital in Arizona, and one of 129 hospitals in the nation, to receive this honor.

“Receiving recognition by voluntarily participating in this process is a testament to the high quality wound care available at our facility,” said Brian Paterick, MD, medical director of the Dignity Health Chandler Regional Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center. “For referring physicians, it means we are available when they have patients with chronic, slow healing wounds. For patients, it means our dedicated team of medical professionals is able to provide consultations and treatment while focusing on patient safety and satisfaction.”

At the center, hyperbaric oxygen chambers surround a patient with 100 percent oxygen at a higher than normal atmospheric pressure, creating a condition that is similar to what a deep sea diver experiences. Sessions, or dives, last from two to two-and-a-half hours. Each session increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the patient’s blood, allowing it to go directly to the wound and stimulate healing.

UHMS has held its clinical hyperbaric medicine facility accreditation program since 2001. Participation in the program is voluntary. Facilities that participate must demonstrate their commitment to patient care and facility safety during the accreditation process.

Dignity Health Chandler Regional’s Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center offers hospital-based outpatient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as disease management and diabetes care.
