PRENATAL EDUCATION AND SUPPORT GROUPS - Dignity Health is pleased to offer a host of prenatal, childbirth, postnatal, parenting classes and family resources. We cover everything from breastfeeding to postpartum and more. Our team is committed to educating you and your family members about the birthing process so you are prepared to care for your newborn and growing family. Pregnancy and Childbirth Education Classes
We offer a variety of childbirth and newborn care education classes taught by trained instructors.
You should begin a childbirth education class by the seventh month of your pregnancy and complete it one month before your due date. Register by your fourth month to assure that space is available.

Breastfeeding Education and Resources
We are committed to supporting families who choose to breastfeed. Breast milk provides an excellent source of nutrition for your baby and has many health benefits for both mother and baby. We actively encourage breastfeeding as the primary source of newborn nutrition.
Our lactation services team includes certified consultants and educators ready to help you succeed in breastfeeding. We offer breastfeeding classes prior to delivery and a free breastfeeding support group that meets weekly.
We offer a Keeping Kids Safe class for parents or any child caregiver focusing on home safety and child proofing techniques. We review child/infant CPR and choking protocol, though participants do not receive a CPR certification.
Birthing & Baby Care Classes
Our childbirth classes are for expectant mothers and their coaches. Class topics include the late stages of pregnancy, when to go to the hospital, stages of labor, birth and what to expect the first few days after birth. Pain management options and medical interventions will also be covered. Birthing classes and designed to fit your needs, whether this is your first or third pregnancy.

Express Childbirth Preparation
Meets on a Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Comfort Measures for Labor and Birth
This interactive three-hour class is designed to assist moms and partners in achieving their goal for labor and birth, whether un-medicated or not, through a wide variety of comfort techniques. Class focuses on topics, such as, breathing, relaxation, and positioning to manage the challenges of labor. Completion of a birthing class, or a previous personal labor and/or birth, is a prerequisite for this class.
The Art of Breastfeeding
Expectant mothers and their coaches will learn about the advantages of breastfeeding in this three-hour course. Topics include how breastfeeding works, baby’s feeding cues, initiating breastfeeding, milk production and some common breastfeeding challenges.
This interactive two-hour class is designed to guide mom and her partner in the use of their breast pump, how and when to pump, returning to work, and the logistics surrounding that process. Completion of a Breastfeeding class or a previous personal breastfeeding experience, is a prerequisite. This class may be taken before or after the birth of your baby. Moms may bring their infant and a support person.
Breastfeeding Support Group
Registration is not required for support groups. You are welcome to attend our open forums any time.
Meetings are facilitated by board certified lactation consultants who provide support to breastfeeding moms during their baby’s first year of life. Moms have the opportunity to meet other breastfeeding moms and share feeding challenges. Support group does not meet the week of July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
Baby Your Baby
In this interactive newborn care class, parents will learn tips and techniques for feeding, burping, bathing, swaddling and caring for their newborn. Important topics such as baby care basics, SIDS, and when to call the pediatrician are also covered in this three-hour course.
Pregnancy & Postpartum Support Group
For pregnant and new mothers who are experiencing depression and adjustment challenges, the number one complication of childbirth. Come learn coping mechanisms and how to ask for help in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. You are welcome to bring your baby (non-mobile infants only, please), significant other or support person. Support group does not meet the week of July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
While pregnant we are often taught to think of and care for the expecting baby, but too often we forget to care for ourselves. Join our 6-week therapeutic program designed to assist mothers and mothers-to-be needing mental and emotional support during pregnancy and postpartum.

All groups are confidential and limited to 10 participants per group. Participants are welcome to bring a support person and/or infant (non-mobile infants only, please). Each group session is facilitated by a licensed therapist experienced in perinatal mood disorders and postpartum changes experienced during the perinatal period.
Registration is required, but there is no fee to attend. Sessions are also available in Spanish.

Boot Camp for New Dads
This 3 hour course gives expectant fathers the opportunity to learn the ropes of fatherhood from veteran dads. The class covers caring for the baby, helping mom and dealing with the emotions, fears, and challenges of becoming a new dad. Boot Camp for New Dads® (aka Daddy Boot Camp®) is a unique father-to-father, community-based workshop that inspires and equips men of different economic levels, ages and cultures to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates and personally navigate their transformation into dads.

Mommy Fit Camps - Pregnancy and Postpartum Fitness
Join other moms for our fun, prenatal or postpartum exercise classes taught by a nationally certified*, Pregnancy Fitness Educator.

Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers invite you to be part of a perinatal bereavement support group.
Meetings are held the third Monday of each month for any individual/couples who are in need of support following the loss of a baby of any gestational age.

Gestational Diabetes Class
During pregnancy -- usually at around 28 weeks or later many women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes. A diagnosis of gestational diabetes does not mean that you had diabetes before you conceived, or that you will have diabetes after giving birth. But it’s important to follow your doctor’s advice regarding blood glucose (blood sugar) levels while you’re pregnant, so you and your baby both remain healthy.
Weekly classes are open to pregnant patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and are covered by most insurance plans. For class availability or additional information, please call the Center for Diabetes Management at 480.728.3535.
Boot Camp for New Dads
This informative class outlines CPR and the treatment of foreign body airway obstruction of the infant. The course is facilitated by the United Phoenix Fire Fighters Association using American Heart Association curriculum. Upon successful completion of the class each participant will receive a course completion card. The level of participation can affect the length of the class. The class fee is $20.00 a person, and pre-registration is required.

Family Birth Center Tours
In our guided Family Birth Center Tour, you will have an opportunity to view the Maternity unit prior to the birth of your child. As part of the tour you will see a Labor and Delivery room, a Postpartum room, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and what doors to use when you come in for the "big day".

CHILD SAFETY CLASSES - Knowing what to do in the event of an emergency can be a matter of life or not. Register for one of our child safety classes which covers babysitting, child-proofing your home, infant CPR and more. Keeping Kids Safe
Class members will participate in hands-on learning of adult, child and infant CPR, and choking rescue techniques from a qualified American Heart Instructor.
This four hour course also covers child-proofing and home safety.

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, or needs CPR. They learn helpful information like what to do if there is severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

Children are Priceless Passengers
In this two hour class, parents will learn about proper car seat use, installation, crash dynamics, seat belt systems, and the four steps to protect your child in the vehicle. (Class is offered monthly.) The fee for the class is $35. Advance registration is required.
