Dental screenings and services

Dental screenings for newborns through age 5:
  • Tele-dentistry zoom or in-person
  • Teaches children good oral health practices including tooth brushing skills and nutrition choices
  • Provides children with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a two-minute timer
  • Reduces cavities by providing free oral screenings, applying fluoride varnish every three to six months, and providing referrals to dental professionals

Services for parents:

  • Provides education regarding good oral health practices including tooth brushing skills and nutrition choices
  • Facilitates dental visits by providing referral list and making follow-up calls for urgent cases
  • Increases awareness of the importance of having your child's first dental visit by age one

 

Dignity Health East Valley Early Childhood Oral Health department’s First Teeth First, (a First Things First funded program) administers: basic oral screenings, education and referrals provided at no cost to expectant mothers and children 0 through age 5, not enrolled in kindergarten. Also, participating children throughout the East Valley service area are eligible to receive fluoride varnish every six months at no cost.

Dental screenings for expectant moms

  • Provides education regarding good oral health practices including tooth brushing skills and nutrition choices
  • Facilitates dental visits by providing referral list and making follow-up calls for urgent cases
  • Provide Expectant Mom with Electric Toothbrush, finger brush, diapers, toothpaste and educational material on baby’s oral health

 

 

 

Professional CE dental and CME medical staff training(1 hr):

  • Educates pediatricians on the importance of providing oral health screenings and referrals to dental providers by age one
  • Educates dental providers on the importance of seeing children beginning at age one

Oral Health Training for Early Childhood Professionals(1 hr):

  • Receive credit through the Arizona Early Childhood Workforce Registry
  • Educates childcare staff on the importance of process of tooth decay, risk factors for tooth decay, consequences of tooth decay and prevention of tooth decay

Oral screening and fluoride varnish clinics are held at WIC offices, immunization clinics, childcares, preschools and other community locations throughout the East Valley. 

First Things First, approved by Arizona voters, works to ensure that our youngest children have access to quality early childhood experiences so they will start school healthy and ready to succeed.
