Dear Neurosurgery Residency Applicants,
Thank you for your interest in the St Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) neurosurgery residency program. The residency program is led by Drs. Peter Nakaji and Nicholas Theodore. Along with the Director of the Barrow Neurological Institute, Dr. Robert Spetzler, they have created a culture that is best described as the “BNI family”. We trust that after reviewing our program, you will be as excited about applying here as we are about training here.
The residents are very proud of the resources available for resident education. The twenty board-certified and three board-eligible clinical faculty members are superb. They represent all subspecialties within neurosurgery. Four are members of the American Academy of Neurosurgery. Over 6,600 neurosurgical procedures are performed at Barrow per year, including endovascular interventions and stereotactic radiosurgery. These patients are cared for in 64 dedicated neurointensive care unit beds. Outside of the operating theater, the research division supports active laboratories in spinal biomechanics, skull base surgery, molecular biology, and genomics.
We hope that you will seriously consider our institution for your professional training.
