Thank you for your interest in the Barrow Neurological Institute's Neurosurgery Residency Program at St. Joseph's Hospital.
We accept four, PGY1 residents per year through ERAS/NRMP only. The PGY2-7 positions are currently filled.
Applications must be submitted through ERAS by October 1 of the current academic year in order to be considered for a residency position starting July 1 of the next academic year.
Please include the following items in your ERAS application:
Please submit the following directly to the program:
International medical graduates must be able to obtain an ECFMG certificate and J-1 visa. We do not sponsor visas.
Applicants are evaluated based on multiple criteria including (but not limited to): personal statement, grades, research experience, USMLE scores, letters of recommendation, extracurricular pursuits, etc. Applicants will receive notification of their interview status in mid-October.
Please view our online profiles for additional information.
Interviews are two full days and are typically held between November and January. Applicants will need to arrive the day prior to their interview and are expected to be on campus until approximately 5:00p.m. of the 2nd interview day.
ERAS no longer allows applicants to change their letters of recommendation once posted. Please post your top 4 letters through ERAS, additional letters of recommendation will not be accepted outside of ERAS. We are aware that applicants may only have 1-2 letters of recommendation from neurosurgeons available in September when ERAS opens. Please submit your additional neurosurgery letters through ERAS when they are available in lieu of submitting letters of recommendation from other subspecialists.
We wish you the best in your pursuit of becoming a neurosurgeon!
