The Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is contracted with an extensive list of local and national health insurance plans and participate in their network of providers. The selected coverage and cost vary by health plan. We encourage you to contact your health plan to better understand these details.
Patients are fully responsible for all bills related to treatment. So it is important for you to know the details of your health plan coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. If appropriate, our billing department will submit your claim to your insurance, but that is not a guarantee of payment.
We encourage you to contact your health plan to better understand your coverage. Many health plans require referrals and/or authorizations for specific services prior to treatment. Some plans require members to pay for a portion of their care through co-pays or deductibles (out-of-pocket expenses). We encourage you to contact your health plan to better understand the specific details associated with your plan.
Below is a brief description of the types of charges that may be included on your billing statements or insurance explanation of benefits:
A co-payment for your provider office visit in the cancer center is NOT collected at the time of service because cancer center providers are part of the center and do not have independent clinics.
The Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s will bill for services such as clinic staff, supplies, and charges for procedures and tests completed during your appointments.
The Dignity Health Medical Group will bill separately for the services provided by your physician or other healthcare provider whether you are seen in the cancer center or in the hospital.
Our cancer center is an outpatient department of St. Joseph’s Hospital. The facility fee covers many of the services that make up a comprehensive cancer center, including an evidence-based supportive care and survivorship program. Some services include genetic counseling, hands-on nutritional education, social worker support and many support groups.
Thank you for choosing the Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s.
