Chirag Patel, MD, is a thoracic surgeon at Norton Thoracic Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He is board certified in general surgery.
Dr. Patel’s clinical specialties include lung transplantation, lung cancer, esophageal disease, and esophageal cancer. His research interests include lung transplantation and all areas of thoracic surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He then completed his residency at St. Joseph’s, several months of which included a thoracic surgery rotation at Norton Thoracic Institute. Dr. Patel continued his training by completing a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis. During this fellowship, Dr. Patel returned to Norton Thoracic Institute to spend three months as a visiting fellow.
“Lung transplantation is a complex procedure with many moving parts,” says Dr. Patel. “It incorporates people from numerous specialties who work together for a common goal—the well-being of the patient. As a thoracic surgeon, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient go from a limited lifestyle to a meaningful, active life after transplantation.”
