Chirag Patel, MD, is a thoracic surgeon at Norton Thoracic Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He also provides care in the East Valley office. Dr. Patel is board certified in both cardiothoracic and general surgery.
Dr. Patel’s expertise includes lung transplantation, lung cancer, tracheal and airway disorders, esophageal disease, esophageal cancer, and robotic thoracic surgery. His research interests include lung transplantation and all areas of thoracic surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He then completed his residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. Dr. Patel continued his training by completing a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis.
“With the introduction of robotic procedures in thoracic surgery, patients are able to have less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, minimal scarring and receive an overall better oncological operation,” says Dr. Patel.
