Meet Dr. Ammar Karim, DO

Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship Trained, Fracture Specialist

• Lower extremity, complex fractures, fracture repair • Repair and reconstruction of complex fractures including the pelvis and hip socket, articular fractures (such as broken bones around a joint) in the upper and lower extremities • Evaluates fractures that do not unite, or are healed in the wrong position • Sub-specialty focus on arthritic hips and knees • Performs primary hip and knee replacements, revision hip and knee replacements for failed or infected replacements, or arthritis from a previous trauma or fracture • Direct anterior hips and robotic assisted knees

About Dr. Karim

Education

BS in Biological Sciences at Rutgers University. 

He completed his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Rowan University. 

Dr. Karim completed his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. 

Specialties

Dr. Karim is subspecialized in orthopaedic trauma being an expert in operative and nonoperative treatment of fractures.

He specializes in the repair and reconstruction of complex fractures including the pelvis and acetabulum (hip socket), as well as articular fractures (such as broken bones around a joint) in the upper and lower extremities.

Dr. Karim also sees and evaluates fractures that do not unite, or are healed in the wrong position.  He also has a subspecialty focus on arthritic hips and knees. 

Dr. Karim performs primary hip and knee replacements, as well as revision hip and knee replacements for failed or infected replacements, or arthritis from a previous trauma or fracture.  He performs direct anterior hips and robotic assisted knees.  

Biography

He has authored multiple journal articles and has given lectures at numerous orthopaedic conferences.

He is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, and the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Karim was born in Guyana, South America.  He moved to New Jersey when he was three years old and grew up on the east coast.  He now practices in Arizona where he enjoys the sunshine and lack of snow.  In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Claudia, and training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
