Specialties: Adult reconstructive surgery, hip, and knee replacement.
Education: Dr. McCann earned his medical degree from the New York Medical College before training at the UC Irvine Medical Center and through the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program, based at St. Mary’s. He completed his fellowship in adult hip reconstruction at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston under Dr. William Harris, the father of total hip replacement surgery.
Involvement: Dr. McGann is the chairman of St. Mary’s Department of Orthopedic Services, and he is the founder of the hospital’s Total Joint Center.
Specialties: Joint replacement, anterior approach hip replacement.
Education: Dr. van Warmerdam received her medical degree from Creighton University. Following that, she completed her five-year surgery residency at St. Mary’s as part of the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program, and then a one-year adult reconstructive fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
Involvement: Dr. van Warmerdam currently serves as the medical director of the St. Mary’s Total Joint Center and is active in orthopedic research and resident education.
Specialties: Sports Medicine
Education: Dr. Akizuki obtained his medical degree from George Washington University and completed his internship at the UCLA Medical Center. He earned his orthopedic surgery residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center and his fellowship from UCLA. Dr. Akizuki is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Involvement: Dr. Akizuki is the team physician for the San Francisco Giants, the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University.
Specialties: Sports medicine, knee, shoulder, minimally-invasive arthroscopic techniques
Education: Dr. Chen earned his medical degree from UC Davis and a master’s degree in public health from the University of California. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at Queens Medical Center in Hawaii, and he received his fellowship in sports medicine, shoulder and arthroscopy at the UCSF Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Involvement: Dr. Chen has extensive experience in the field of sports medicine, having worked with numerous athletics teams, including the University of Hawaii football program, the sports programs at the Kamehameha School District, the basketball and soccer teams at the University of California, several San Francisco high schools and the USA Rugby Sevens team.
Specialties: Sports medicine and joint replacement (knee and shoulder).
Education: Dr. Montgomery earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He went onto complete his surgery internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, and then his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, also in New York. He received a fellowship in sports medicine from the Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.
Involvement: Dr. Montgomery is the chief of training for the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program. He developed and directs the arthroscopy bioskills laboratory at St. Mary’s, and he is the vice chairman for orthopedic surgery. During the years of his fellowship, he assisted in the care of several professional teams, including the Los Angeles Rams, Lakers and Kings, and since he has been in practice he has served as team physician for the San Francisco Giants.
Specialties: Shoulder and knee disorders
Education: Dr. Wolf received his medical degree from the University of Bordeaux School in Medicine in France and then completed his internship at Lamentin Hospital in Martinique (French West Indies). Following that, he earned his general surgery residency at Tufts University in Boston and his orthopedic surgery residency at the National Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital in Arlington, Va. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
