Center of Excellence

Mercy Hospitals Bakersfield has recently achieved five Centers of Excellence accreditations in Colorectal, Hernia, Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Robotic Surgery. This facility has been recognized for providing the highest quality of care by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).

This accreditation distinguishes Mercy Hospitals Bakersfield from many other surgical facilities by providing the highest quality of care to patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

This achievement means that Mercy Hospitals Bakersfield has met nationally & internationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous requirements and inspection process are granted accreditation.

Surgeon of Excellence

Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield have also received five designations from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) for some of our surgeons. Each of our Centers' of Excellence has a Surgeon of Excellence who is leading the charge on technology, efficiency, and overall outcomes.

Blue Distinction Center

Blue Shield of CA has recognized Dignity Health Mercy Hospital with a Blue Distinction® Center for Bariatric Surgery designation as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.

To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery designation, a health care facility must demonstrate success in meeting patient safety measures as well as bariatric-specific quality measures, including complication and readmission rate for laparoscopic procedures in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and adjustable gastric band. A health care facility must also be nationally accredited at both the facility and bariatric program-specific levels.
