Our Program

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Transitional Year training program will welcome its’ first class of ten residents in summer 2020.  St. Joseph’s is a busy urban hospital in Stockton, CA. The hospital has over 300 beds, a busy ICU, and hosts delivery of over 3,000 babies each year. Transitional Year residents’ primary outpatient experience is at nearby Community Medical Centers – Channel, serving the diverse patient population of the greater Stockton area. Residents also will have the opportunity to train at other area clinics and hospitals during their elective time. The program provides an excellent and diverse training environment in the heart of California’s Central Valley. 

The St. Joseph’s Transitional Year Residency Program is part of a multi-year effort to expand graduate medical education at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine programs started in 2018, and Internal Medicine will be starting 2020. One of the hallmarks of the St. Joseph’s Transitional Year Residency Program is collaboration among different specialties with unique learning opportunities for residents, research projects, and benefits to patient care.

Residents will find a welcoming and caring family of faculty and staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. The unique combination of busy urban hospital surrounded by a relatively rural and under-served community yields excellent patient care experiences.
