POLICY

Summary of the key terms, conditions and benefits of appointment in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited training programs sponsored by Dignity Health (DH), St. Joseph’s Medical Center (SJMC) of Stockton CA. More detailed information regarding the terms, conditions and benefits of appointment within a specific training program is available from the Program Director or the Program Coordinator.

PROCEDURE

Duration of Appointment: The duration of appointment in a program extends for one year at a minimum. It is predicated on satisfactory clinical and academic performance, and may be subject to renewal. The Resident Letter of Agreement, available from the Program Director, specifies the duration of the program and the conditions for re-appointment, if applicable. 

Annual Salary: Annual salary is competitive within our region and is approved annually by human resources and the graduate medical education committee

Insurance Benefits: Dignity Health pays the premium on medical, dental and vision plans to all residents, spouses and all verified dependents. Dignity Health provides life/accidental death and dismemberment insurance for residents and pays the premium for 1x annual salary for life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for residents. Additional coverage levels are available with some cost to the resident. Residents have the option to enroll spouse and dependents life insurance at their own expenses. Residents are provided with long-term disability insurance and Dignity Health will pay 60% of Base Pay option. Detailed benefit information can be found in Dignity Health’s Total Rewards Portal.

Professional Liability Insurance: Professional liability insurance is provided by Dignity Health to cover residents performing duties within the course and scope of their appointments.  

Retirement Benefits (403b Plan): After one year of service in which the resident has worked 1,000 hours, residents are eligible for matching funds of $.5 for each $1 contributed. Residents are 100% vested in matching contributions after 5 years of service during which the resident has worked 1000 hours each year. 

Leave: Detailed information regarding leave benefits, such as vacation, sick leave, educational leave, maternity and paternity leave for a particular residency program can be obtained by contacting the appropriate program coordinator, Graduate Medical Education (GME) Manager or under resident vacation policy. Please note: Bereavement, military and interview leave are also available. 

Effect of Leave on Completion of Program: If extended leave of greater than one month per year is taken due to illness, maternity/paternity or other approved circumstances, the duration of the residency will be extended. This will be determined on an individual basis, conforming to all ACGME and applicable specialty board requirements.
