What to Expect from Hysterectomy at Dignity Health

You will undergo either an abdominal hysterectomy or a laparoscopic hysterectomy. The preferred method is laparoscopic hysterectomy because recovery and healing are much quicker.

Your Dignity Health health professional will explain the risk of hysterectomy which include bleeding, blood clots, nerve and tissue damage, and bleeding, well before your procedure. The risks increase with an abdominal hysterectomy.

After a hysterectomy, you may stay a few days in the hospital. A full recovery takes three to six weeks.
