Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency triage makes sure the sickest patients get care first. Triage identifies patients who need immediate care and those who can wait.

If your condition changes, please notify the triage nurse immediately.

We may need to perform tests/procedures to rule out various illnesses. The emergency room often functions as a diagnostic testing center, in which doctors identify conditions and direct future care.

Before undergoing testing, you may be asked to recall your symptoms, how long you have experienced them, and other details of your medical history. This will help your doctor decide on the best course of action going forward.

Some of these tests may require patients to have an empty stomach. If you would like to eat or drink while waiting, please check with an ER staff before doing so.

If you need to use the restroom while in the waiting area, please notify a staff member. The staff may need to collect a sample.

*This service is only intended for use by those who are seeking care at the ER and do not have life-threatening or debilitating medical complaints. Those indicating a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition during the online registration process (a list of emergency condition filters is built into the system) will immediately be prompted to dial 9-1-1 or go to the nearest ER.

This is not an appointment or reservation service, as emergency triage processes do not allow for the scheduling of treatment. Users are subject to the same triage processes as all other ER patients, including delays caused by changes in patient traffic. Users do not skip in front of other patients. Priority treatment is always given to those with the most urgent medical conditions.
