WEAVE Wellness Center

In partnership with WEAVE, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento helped establish the WEAVE Wellness Center in 2011, to provide vital domestic violence services that were lacking in south Sacramento. This collaboration is an innovative practice model that provides crisis intervention and counseling services to a high-need, underserved region. WEAVE has also worked with Methodist Hospital to enhance capability to respond to domestic violence experienced by patients, or employees. Situated on the Methodist campus, the WEAVE Wellness Center is able to provide clients with direct access to primary and preventative care at the hospital's Family Health Center.
Over the past year 283 clients received services at the WEAVE Wellness Center. 82% were victims of Domestic Violence, 15% were victims of sexual assault, and 3% were seeking help for other mental health issues. They were primarily adult women (90%) with an average age of 33 and average income of $11,968. 47% were Hispanic, 25% Caucasian and 17% African American. 18% of all clients indicated that they had a disability. The Wellness Center staff is all bilingual, and 24% of the clients were mono-lingual Spanish speaking. Of the domestic violence victims, 52% had experienced physical violence, 63% suffered from emotional abuse, and in 14% of cases there was financial abuse. 17% were still living in a home with their abuser, 27% acknowledged that their children witnessed the abuse and 14% were ordered to participate in services by CPS.

The Center offers walk-in crisis intervention triage, legal assistance, individual and group therapeutic counseling, and other crisis stabilization services to women, men and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

"It's incredible to be able to witness these women letting their light shine and blossoming into their own sense of self. To be a part of their journey has been such a privilege."
