Atrial fibrillation or AFib is a quivering or irregular heartbeat that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Afib is the most common type of heart arrhythmia and it affects some 6 million Americans. With the aging of baby boomers, AFib is expected to increase to more than 10 million patients by 2050. KIVE 6 PBS recently produced a local documentary about baby boomers. The half hour show, called “Forever Young,” features a segment on AFib with Dr. Arash Aryana, cardiac electrophysiologist at the Dignity Health Heart & Vascular Institute, and two of his patients, who both received ablation procedures that relieved their symptoms.
