Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Earns 4th Consecutive Hospital Safety Grade ‘A’

New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety

GRASS VALLEY, CALIF. MAY 1, 2025 – Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety, for the fourth consecutive measurement period. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“Achieving four consecutive 'A' ratings for the first time in Sierra Nevada's history is a testament to the consistent effort and unwavering dedication of our entire team to providing the highest quality, safest care possible to the residents of Nevada County," said Dr. Scott Neeley, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital’s President and CEO. "For our community, this award means access to exceptional healthcare right here in the foothills, without the need to travel down the hill to larger cities. It reinforces not only our commitment, but our proven ability to be a trusted and reliable healthcare partner, ensuring the well-being of Nevada County.”

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. For the Spring 2025 measurement period, 19 Dignity Health California hospitals received an "A" Hospital Safety Grade - receiving the most "A" grades out of any health system in the state.
