Diabetes in Pregnancy Program

To assist and support clients by decreasing risk factors associated with diabetes during pregnancy, Dignity Health offers comprehensive care in our Outpatient Perinatal Diabetes Clinic in partnership with Valley Children’s Medical Group. The program is designed to provide expectant mothers with practical information for improved diabetes management through specialized meal planning, physical activity, and incorporating best practices from the program in daily life.

The team is led by Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors Kristina Milan, MD and Carolyn Reyes, MD, and includes highly trained nurses, a diabetic educator, dietician and social worker. Their collaborative efforts help patients manage complicated pregnancies due to diabetes through a full spectrum of prenatal services including testing, evaluation, counseling, and education, along with:

  • Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy
  • Insulin Therapy
  • Exercise Regimen
  • Counseling on pathophysiology of the disease process
  • Diabetes Management shortly after delivery—GDM or known diabetes or pre-diabetes
  • Breastfeeding Support in the setting of maternal diabetes
