Asthma Education


Helping our community breathe a little easier.

Pediatric Program (Age 0-17)

Healthy Breathing

The Healthy Breathing program is for parents/guardians of children (0-17 years) diagnosed with asthma, provided free of charge with a referral from California Hospital Medical Center. In-home asthma management services are provided with community health promoters from Esperanza Community Housing Corporation.

What We Provide

  • In-home asthma education for families
  • Home visits to identify asthma triggers
  • Cleaning products that help eliminate allergens
  • Referrals to local environmental health resources

Qualifications                                                                     

  • The patient ages (0-17) must either be seen in the Emergency Department or admitted to Pediatric Department for asthma at California Hospital Medical Center
  • The patient must be a resident of South Los Angeles

Adult Program (Ages 18+)

Healthy Homes

The Healthy Homes program enrolls eligible low-income families and provides free-of-charge home visits, housing visual assessments and home hazard remediation. Community health workers visit families in their homes and work with them to improve their housing conditions. This program is offered by one of our community partners, Esperanza Community Housing Corporation.

Services 

  • Home visits to assess health and housing health hazards
  • Pest Identification
  • Green Cleaning Alternative
  • Resource Referrals- Health, Food Banks, Lead Prevention Education, Asthma Education 

Qualifications

  • The patient lives in South Los Angeles
  • The patient can be either an adult or a child with asthma
