The Hospital Today

In 2013, we changed our name to Mark Twain Medical Center to reflect that we plan to become the center of health care in Calaveras County. The name also reflects the diversity of services provided by Mark Twain, ranging from inpatient services to physician clinics located throughout the county.

Our Commitment to Exceed Expectations

Founded in 1951, Mark Twain Medical Center is a 25-bed, full-access hospital providing inpatient acute care, outpatient services and emergency services fully licensed by the California Department of Health Services and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and the California Medical Association.

Recently, Mark Twain embarked on a plan to exceed the expectations of those we serve by first re-examining our Mission, Vision and Values. We cultivated valuable input from our Board, Medical Staff, employees and the community. Our new Mission reflects that we want to serve the health care needs of all Calaveras County citizens, in collaboration with our partner Dignity Health and their excellent hospitals. We also want to pursue our vision of a healthier future for all, inspired by faith, driven by innovation and powered by our humanity. In addition to these, we ask our staff to remember and practice our Values of: Compassion, Inclusion, Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration.

Expanding Local Health Care Services

Medical Staff and Employment Impact

Our Medical Staff, averaging 85, represent a range of specialties broad enough to ensure that patients will be able to secure quality medical care in a rural community.

In addition to being a major provider of health services, we are also a major source of jobs for area residents. On average, more than 300 people are employed at the hospital, its three Specialty Care Centers and its five Family Medical Centers.

Mark Twain Medical Center enjoys the support of a large organization needed to meet the challenges of a changing health care environment. Similarly, our linkage with the business leaders, local government, and our neighbors will preserve the unique fabric of the hospital and its role in the community.
