Dr. Unal is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee disorders, sports injuries and arthritis. He received his bachelor's degree in molecular and cell biology at the University of California, Berkeley and went on to attend Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at USC. Following residency, he chose to spend an additional year at University of Kentucky's Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in order to refine his skills as a sports medicine surgeon. While in Kentucky, Dr. Unal was the Team Physician for Eastern Kentucky University an assisted with sports coverage at multiple other colleges including, University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, Georgetown College and local high schools. Dr. Unal believes in a non-surgical approach as the initial step in treating knee and shoulder pain, instability, and muscle and ligament tears of the shoulder and knee. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Medical Association.He takes pride in providing knowledge and guidance in order to ensure his patients feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. Dr. Unal enjoys weight lifting, hiking, exploring nature, snowboarding, and a variety of recreational sports in his free time. He likes to maintain an active lifestyle and his goal is to help his patients do the same.
