Research Survey

Providers and researchers at the Gender Confirmation Center and Dignity Health would like to invite you to be part of a research study to learn more about the patient experiences after FTM/N gender-affirming top surgery (removal of breasts or breast mastectomy). This study was designed by Dr. Scott Mosser of the Gender Confirmation Center, as well as Dr. John Strang and Dr. Scott Leibowitz, and is sponsored by Dignity Health, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital.

We are conducting this research study to specifically learn more about our patients’ mood before and after top surgery as well as experiences with post-operative pain. We are asking you to take part in this study only if you have had FTM/N top surgery (removal of breasts or breast mastectomy) as we believe that your experience could help inform the medical community’s best practices with regard to top surgery and transgender care.

We celebrate that the spectrum of experience and identity among trans and non-binary folks is diverse and wide-ranging. We want to make sure that anyone who has had FTM/N top surgery feels supported and encouraged to take part in this survey. If you agree to take part in this study, you will be helping to more robustly inform patients on the outcomes of top surgery and improve our surgical approaches.

Participating in this study is completely voluntary. If you decide to participate, you will be asked questions about your top surgery, including any possible complications from top surgery that you may have had and general feelings about your top surgery. The survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

You can skip questions that you do not want to answer or stop the survey at any time. The survey is anonymous, and no one will be able to link your answers back to you. Please do not include your name or other information that could be used to identify you in the survey responses.

For questions about this study, please call the transgender hotline at (800) 273-8255. If you have questions or concerns about your rights as a research participant, you can call the Dignity Health CA/NV Institutional Review Board at (415) 750-5654.

We have had some problems with spammers on previous surveys. So, during this survey there will be a few “odd” questions which are included to make sure you aren't a bot. Thanks for your patience with answering a few questions in this survey which might seem a bit strange or overly obvious.

Participating in this survey is entirely optional. If you want your voice to be heard, please proceed by clicking on “Take Survey” below to go to the Survey Form or “Decline Survey” to opt out and leave this site.
