Five years running: Mercy Medical Group and Woodland Clinic medical group receive recognition from national physician association

Results Rank Physician Groups on Patient Care Capabilities

SACRAMENTO, CA - July 12, 2017 – Dignity Health Medical Foundation today announced that Mercy Medical Group and Woodland Clinic Medical Group have both been awarded “Elite Status” from the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG) 2017 Standards of Excellence member survey. Elite Status is CAPG’s highest recognition for outstanding quality care.

The survey rankings are given to physician groups based on their performance in improving patient experience, clinical care and affordability of care. “Our Standards of Excellence survey is recognized as the industry standard by which the nation’s healthcare systems can assess the delivery of accountable and value-based care and improve patient care coordination, in line with the nation’s movement towards alternative payment models,” said Donald Crane, CAPG President and CEO.

Dignity Health Medical Foundation is honored to have both groups receive CAPG recognition five years in a row. Mercy Medical Group received Excellent Status in 2013 and Elite Status in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Woodland Clinic Medical Group received Elite Status in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“We strive to exceed national quality standards and we are pleased that our commitment to exceptional, compassionate care resonates with our communities,” said Jennifer Schaab, COO of Dignity Health Medical Foundation. “We’re proud to receive CAPG’s recognition of our efforts to put patients first.”

“Mercy Medical Group providers are honored to be awarded Elite Status once again for our work to make a difference in our patients’ lives through high quality, compassionate, and coordinated care delivery,” said Alan Shatzel, DO, incoming CEO at Mercy Medical Group, Inc.

The voluntary Standards of Excellence survey is offered to nearly 300 CAPG medical group members in 43 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This year, 140 organizational members participated, covering 10.7 million lives in commercial lines of business and 3 million in Medicare Advantage, along with an additional estimated 4.1 million individuals in state government managed care programs.

“Woodland Clinic Medical Group is proud to receive the highest ranking in the CAPG survey for the fifth year in a row,” said Dr. Karen Hopp, MD, President at Woodland Clinic Medical Group. “We believe an important part of excellent service is truly listening to our patients and providing responsive care, delivered with humankindness.”

The following rigorous categories represent the 2017 Standards of Excellence. Groups need to excel in each category to receive Elite Status.

  • Domain 1—Care Management Practices: Clinical system supports for quality and efficiency on a population scale.

  • Domain 2—Information Technology: Funnel for accurate, actionable information to support clinical decisions and coordinate team care.

  • Domain 3—Accountability and Transparency: Response to the public demand for objective information regarding performance, patient service, and regulatory compliance.

  • Domain 4—Patient-Centered Care: Critical components of access, convenience, cultural responsiveness, and customized individual care.

  • Domain 5—Group Support of Advanced Primary Care: Designed to make the patient-centered medical home a system-wide model and to revitalize the discipline of primary care.

  • Domain 6—Administrative and Financial Capability: Aimed at managing complex relationships, diverse revenue streams, innovative payment alignment, and risk; demonstrates how our physician groups are responding to sustainable healthcare reform. (Informational only—no public reporting.)
