He understands that neck, arm, back and leg pain is a life altering condition that can decrease quality of life.  Dr. James provides spine care individualized to each patient based on his or her expectations and goals. Surgery is only recommended after all non-operative treatment options have been explored and the patient and their families have been educated on the potential risks, as well as, benefits of surgery in order to make an informed decision.  When surgery is indicated, Dr. James provides a patient-specific innovative approach by blending traditional spine surgical principles with cutting-edge surgical techniques by minimally invasive means that decrease incision size, decrease infection risk, decrease hospital stay and lead to a faster recovery to a pain free lifestyle.

In My Own Words

Dr. James is a fellowship trained, board certified Orthopaedic Spine surgeon that is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He attended Louisiana State University before receiving a Bachelors Degree in Science from Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During medical school at Louisiana State Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. James developed an interest in degenerative and traumatic musculoskeletal disease. He went on to focus on this during his training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Louisiana State Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, and during his residency gained further experience in treating these ailments with a particular interest in Spine Surgery. During his final year of training, Dr. James was completed a combined Orthopaedic/Neurosurgery fellowship at the Spine Institute of Arizona where he gained further knowledge about the treatment of disorders of the spine, as well as, minimally invasive spine surgery.  The Spine Institute of Arizona has been a leading innovator of spinal devices and has developed minimally invasive techniques that have been adopted all around the world.  During the Neurosurgical aspect of his training, he was afforded the opportunity to train at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute, an internationally renowned medical center for spine diseases, disorders and injuries.  Dr. James' training included both non-operative and operative treatment of degenerative and traumatic disease of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine including microsurgery, minimally invasive surgery, traditional "open" surgery as well as motion preservation of the spine. He is an active member of the North American Spine Society, Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.
