Herbert Vallier Named SVP/Chief Human Resources Officer

San Francisco, CA - August 6, 2010 - Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the eighth largest hospital system in the nation, announced today that Herbert "Herb" J. Vallier has been named to the position of Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer. Mr. Vallier will have responsibility for the overall strategy and leadership of human resources for CHW's integrated 41 acute care hospitals and health centers across California, Arizona, and Nevada. He replaces Ernest Urquhart who retired from the position in July 2010 after nine years with the organization.

Herb Vallier brings 25 years of experience in human resources administration to this executive leadership role, most recently as the Senior Vice President of Human Services at Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives. He has also served as the executive vice president for human resources for Revlon, Inc., and as the director of strategic staffing for the office of the president and provost at Harvard University.

"We are pleased to welcome Herb Vallier to the Catholic Healthcare West family," said Lloyd H. Dean, President/CEO for Catholic Healthcare West. "He is a natural leader with a strong personal alignment with CHW's mission and values, and I am confident that he will help us build on our record as an employer of choice in our communities."

Vallier's appointment is effective October 10, 2010. His immediate priorities will be to ensure the organization's employees have the resources they need to excel in the post health care reform environment and to continue to establish CHW as an employer of choice in all the communities the organization serves.

"I'm delighted to join an organization that reflects its strong values in the workplace," said Vallier. "It's exciting to join CHW at a time when healthcare reform will put a premium on developing leadership and clinical skills to better deliver quality healthcare at our facilities."
