Dignity Health Leads California in Hospital Safety with Most 'A' Grades from The Leapfrog Group

Posted in:

CALIFORNIA, MAY 1, 2025 – The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety ratings organization, announced today that 19 Dignity Health hospitals in California have earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade, the most of any health system in the state.

This national distinction recognizes the hospitals’ achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safe healthcare. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and compassion our care teams bring to their work every day to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality, and equitable care,” said Julie J. Sprengel, California President of CommonSpirit Health, parent company of Dignity Health. “We’re proud that more of our hospitals received ‘A’ grades than any other health system in California, it’s a meaningful acknowledgment of our ongoing efforts to build a strong culture of safety across the communities we serve.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
