Mercy Medical Group recognized as quality performer

Dignity Health Medical Foundation today announced Mercy Medical Group and Woodland Clinic were both honored as 'Quality Performers' in California by Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) at its annual IHA 2014 Pay for Performance (P4P) Stakeholders Meeting in Los Angeles. Both organizations have won previously.

Nearly 200 physician groups – representing approximately 35,000 physicians who provide care for about 9 million Commercial HMO/POS members – participate in P4P. Mercy Medical Group and Woodland Clinic are two of 39 groups to receive the quality performance award. The awards are based on performance in three P4P quality measurement domains: meaningful use of health information technology, patient experience, and clinical measures that include prevention as well as priority conditions such as cardiovascular, diabetes, musculoskeletal, and respiratory.

“Quality Performer” award winners are identified as any physician organization whose overall composite score meets a comprehensive threshold based on the top 25 percent score for each measure included in P4P. The organization must also not have any individual measure scores in the bottom 25 percent.

“Our employees and providers are focused on providing the highest quality, compassionate care to keep our patients healthy and reduce the overall cost of health care,” said Joseph Jasser, MD, President/CEO at Dignity Health Medical Foundation. “We are honored to be recognized by Integrated Healthcare Association because it is a reflection of our work to improve the patient experience.”

Ten California health plans contribute data and provide incentive payments based on the aggregated P4P results. These plans are Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Chinese Community Health Plan, Cigna Healthcare of California, Health Net, Kaiser Permanente, Sharp Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare, and Western Health Advantage.

The IHA P4P program is the largest non-governmental quality driven physician incentive program in the United States. The program incentivizes breakthrough improvements in clinical quality, efficiency and the patient experience through a common set of measures including a public report card.
