Exceptional Health Care, Exceptional Experience
Expanding Access to Care in Citrus Heights
Our Approach to Citrus Heights
For the past 50 years, Dignity Health and Mercy Medical Group have delivered high quality, compassionate care to the people of Citrus Heights. As the population grows, we too are growing to meet the health care needs of the community.
Citrus Heights Medical Office Building
The new Citrus Heights Medical Office Building, opening in spring 2019, will be no ordinary facility. It is taking a fresh and evidence-based look at how to improve workflow and patient experience from the ground up, considering the patient experience within and beyond four clinic walls.
This new approach provides the opportunity to leverage technology in meaningful ways to elevate patient experience and enhance the patient/provider connection. To begin this endeavor, we assembled a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, front-line staff, and patients to look at every component and patient touchpoint from start to finish. Insights from that group along with hundreds of hours of observation and data collection informed design and workflow decisions.
The result is a new care structure, workflow, and physical space designed to:
With this approach in mind, this facility and team promotes an exceptional patient experience in an environment that supports the highest quality care, delivered by an engaged and connected care team of providers and staff.
Dignity Health has been supporting and investing in the Citrus Heights community for many years, and continues with this new building project.
Dignity Health is familiar with the importance of working alongside a community during a new building project. In planning stages for this endeavor, Dignity Health met with community members, listened to neighborhood feedback, and incorporated many of those suggestions into the final design, to best meet the needs of the community. A few ways this feedback have been implemented include:
- Design: the building is set back 30 feet from Greenback Lane, has an increased number of handicapped/ADA parking stalls, and has a decreased amount of glass on the building to reduce glare
- Privacy: a row of Redwood trees will be planted along the western border of the building
- Traffic mitigation: the left turn lane from eastbound Greenback Lane onto Fountain Square Drive will be extended by four car lengths
- Community: interior design will include collaboration with local artists, as well as an opportunity for a local business owner to run a coffee café in the lobby area

Tending to a Healthy Community
This facility will help us meet the growing medical needs of the Citrus Heights community and improve access to quality care for residents in Citrus Heights and beyond. It represents an investment in the community that will provide long-term, high-paying jobs and vital services.
But beyond health care, it was also important to us to honor what came before.
The location of the new clinic has a precious history of its own. As a tribute to the nursery that once stood there, our construction crew saved a beautiful rose bush from the site and will replant it on the grounds in a dedicated area of roses, to begin the garden anew and provide a place for reflective pauses and healing, consistent with our mission to unite healing and humankindness.
Dignity Health would like to thank the City for their partnership throughout this effort. Dignity Health is also grateful to the citizens of Citrus Heights and business leaders who have offered feedback and support for this project. We are pleased to have been able to incorporate many of these suggestions into the final design to best meet the needs of the community, and truly enhance the end result.
