Outpatient Care

Fighting cancer is a tough battle, but we have carefully designed our Cancer Centers to simplify and ease the process. Our facilities bring comprehensive treatment to a new level of comfort and personalized care. From advanced diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy to medical oncology and support services, patients receive the compassionate treatment they need.

Advanced Imaging

Our outpatient facilities complement Dignity Health's nationally recognized inpatient cancer care. Our diagnostic capabilities include some of the most sensitive imaging instruments available. Mercy Imaging Centers, which operate alongside our Cancer Centers, provide all imaging modalities, including PET CT, MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography and bone density screening. Learn more about cancer screening.

Medical Oncology

One or more types of medical oncology may be used to treat patients. At our outpatient Cancer Centers, our specialists may use chemotherapy, hormone therapy or biological therapy, in combination with radiation or surgery, to provide the best possible cure.

Radiation Oncology

While radiation therapy typically requires many brief incremental treatments, some patients may be candidates for stereotactic radiosurgery (also known as external beam radiation therapy) in which we deliver the radiation treatment in a single procedure. A linear accelerator generates multiple highly focused radiation beams, which pass through the skin and converge on the tumor site from different angles. Individually, the beams are harmless to normal surrounding tissue. Their strength is multiplied at the focal point, where they work together to destroy cancerous cells.

Benefits of this treatment include:

  • Painless
  • Bloodless
  • Extremely valuable for patients with small tumors requiring delicate treatment

Patient-Centered Approach

At our outpatient Cancer Centers, we aim to make your visit as pleasant and brief as possible. We designed the furnishings and interior to comfort and soothe weary guests.

Not a lot of waiting happens in our waiting room. Dignity Health Cancer Institute's commitment to treating the whole person extends beyond diagnosis and treatment. When you and your family are facing a diagnosis of terminal illness, our hospice and palliative services provide comfort and support throughout life's final journey.
